Today was our first full day at Handong University. It is beautiful campus in the center of beautiful green lush mountains; secluded and very safe. We are serving alongside the English Handong Discipleship School, consisting of 40 students from all around the world. These students are in an intensive 3 week program to prepare for the mission field. This week the lecture series is lead by Dr. Gary Parrett, who has an incredible story of surviving a bus flipping over a bridge in South Korea and being one of the few survivors. Coming out of the accident, he suffered major injuries that could have limited his ministry, however, he hasn't let that stop God's work. He continues to lecture and teach students around the world. His story is amazing and inspiring.
The theme of the English Handong Discipleship School is worship. Dr Parrett used Isaiah 6:1-13 and Romans 12:1 and the 10 commandments to illustrate the importance of keeping our eyes on the cross as daily worship in response to God's love.
After lecture, we had lunch at the university cafeteria and our Korea team prepared the for the vacation bible school we are leading for a group of 60 kids ages 5-12 and the gospel arts program we are leading for the English Handong Discipleship School. This was a sweet time of laughter and planning. The team loves the gospel arts program.
In the evening we had dinner and worship led by our very own South Korea Team. They spent the afternoon practicing with the EHDS team. It was a great experience to see both teams come together on worship. We had another lecture by Dr. Parrett on Psalm 73. At the end of night we gathered at the McCormick's for a debrief, worship and devotional. Lights out at 10:30 in the dorms and everyone went to sleep.
With love,
Melanie
